245 - A House Between Generations

In the quiet village of Santos Evos, in Viseu, a granddaughter brings new life to the home once built by her grandparents in the 1980s.

Rooted in memory and affection, the house is preserved at its core a simple rural structure that now stands gracefully between two contemporary additions.

The intervention enhances comfort and functionality without erasing the past. A new kitchen, cast in concrete and fully open to the landscape, extends from one side of the house. Framed by generous glass surfaces, it opens onto a cascading pool, a gesture of openness, light, and living.

Mirroring it on the opposite side, a new shelter balances the composition. But the heart of the project lies in the old house itself, proudly kept in place. Framed by these two contemporary wings, it becomes even more visible, meaningful, the anchor between what was and what’s yet to come.
