241- House of Bread and Rye - Interpretation and Knowledge

The Casa do Pão e Centeio – Interpretação e Saberes is a cultural and educational project in Macieira-Sernancelhe_Viseu that celebrates the heritage of bread and rye through an innovative and immersive experience. Housed in a former rural primary school, the building will be transformed into an interpretative center that explores the entire cycle of bread, from cultivation to sharing, blending tradition with contemporary technology.

The architectural proposal includes interactive exhibition areas, hands-on workshops, a community oven, and a gastronomic space, all integrated with a sustainable and forward-thinking design approach. A key feature is the suggested use of 3D printing in construction not only as a symbol of innovation but as a way to create organic, flowing forms that echo the natural shapes of rye and the process of breadmaking.

By bridging historical knowledge and modern construction techniques, the project aims to attract a wide range of visitors: from those drawn to the agricultural roots of the region to those curious about the future of building. A place where memory and invention rise together , much like the bread it honors.
